The University of Alaska Fairbanks general education requirements reflect the university's mission, vision and values through teaching as it educates students for active citizenship and prepares them for lifelong learning and careers. The University of Alaska Fairbanks is a Land, Sea, and Space Grant university and an international center for research, education, and the arts, emphasizing the circumpolar North and its diverse peoples.
The University of Alaska Fairbanks general education requirement objectives and learning outcomes are to:
Develop intellectual and practical skills across the curriculum, including inquiry and analysis, critical and creative thinking, problem solving, written and oral communication, information literacy, technological competence, and collaborative learning.
Acquire tools for effective civic engagement in local through global contexts, including ethical reasoning, intercultural competence, and knowledge of Alaska and Alaska issues.
Integrate and apply learning, including synthesis and advanced accomplishment across general and specialized studies, adapting them to new settings, questions and responsibilities, and forming a foundation for lifelong learning.

UAF is a world leader in climate change and Arctic research. We are one of only a handful of universities in the nation designated a Land, Sea and Space Grant Institution.
